The difference between the steel plate produced by the steel plate seller and the iron plate should be distinguished as follows: industrial pure iron, steel, pig iron are all FERROCARBON alloys, but their carbon content is different. Metallography considers that iron-carbon alloy with W [c] < 0.0218% is industrial pure iron, 0.0218% < w [c] < 2.11% is steel, and w [C] < 2.11% is pig iron. But in practical application, steel is the main element of iron, carbon content is generally less than 2%, and contains other elements of materials collectively.
Iron is divided into pig iron and wrought iron. Wrought iron, steel and pig iron are all iron carbon alloys, which are distinguished by the amount of carbon. Generally, the carbon content is less than 0.2% called wrought iron or pure iron, content in 0.2-1.7% called steel, content in more than 1.7% called pig iron. Low carbon steel is fireproof when heated by flame, and brazing between cast iron and low carbon steel usually does not occur in the process of parts manufacturing. To weld low carbon steel to cast iron by brazing mostly occurs in the repair of cast iron defects or the need for zero-time assembly. Considering the poor thermal conductivity and plasticity of cast iron, the workpiece is not suitable for sudden cooling. It is suggested to use oxygen-acetylene flame heating and brass wire as filler.
